Arts &amp;\nMusic Festival Announces 2019 Official Headliners Fitz and the Tantrums<\/em><em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>By guest contributor:  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/morgan-alexander-kosinski-83512413\/\">Morgan Kosinski <\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Either you know all the words to the refrain of \u201cHandClap,\u201d or you&#8217;re just lying.  <a href=\"http:\/\/WWW.wildflowerfestival.com\">Wildflower! Arts &amp; Music Festival<\/a> is elated to announce the addition of the indie\npop Fitz and the Tantrums, to the 2019 line-up. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Established in 2008, Fitz and the Tantrums have\nquickly grown from indie upstarts, to bonafide hitmakers. Scorching up the\nscene with the soulful R&amp;B revival sound, their debut album <em>Pickin\u2019 Up\nThe Pieces<\/em> (2010 Dangerbird Records) introduced us to Michael Fitzpatrick,\nNoelle Scaggs, James King, Joseph Karnes, Jeremy Ruzumna and John Wicks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Upon its\u2019 release, <em>Pickin&#8217; Up the Pieces<\/em>\ncharted at number one on <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Billboard_(magazine)\">Billboard<\/a>&#8216;s <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Top_Heatseekers\">Top Heatseekers<\/a> and became a Rolling Stone \u201cBand to Watch.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/band-to-watch-fitz-and-the-tantrums-put-a-modern-spin-on-motown-189240\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"377\" height=\"377\" src=\"https:\/\/wildflowerfestival.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2019-02-19.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4485\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wildflowerfestival.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2019-02-19.png 377w, https:\/\/wildflowerfestival.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2019-02-19-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/wildflowerfestival.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2019-02-19-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 377px) 100vw, 377px\" \/><\/a><figcaption>2019-02-19<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Featuring singles, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=nGBLlFMn9Xc\">\u2018Moneygrabber\u2019<\/a>\nand <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7qDbSS-uoIM\">\u2018Don\u2019t Gotta Work It Out\u2019<\/a>,\nthe album earned rave reviews and the band soon began filling venues across the\nUS and abroad. It didn\u2019t take long for rock legend Daryl Hall to take notice,\nand he swiftly invited them on his local show, \u2018Live From Daryl\u2019s House.\u2019 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Fitz &amp; the Tantrums-MoneyGrabber Live ft  Daryl Hall\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jXVURtoAhsc?feature=oembed\"  allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Then it was on to huge performances at Bonnaroo,\nCoachella, and Lollapalooza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For their 2013 follow-up, the band offered up a New Wave-influenced dance-pop sound with its Elektra Records debut, 2013\u2019s More Than Just A Dream, which featured platinum-certified and #1 Alternative Radio singles <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=nGBLlFMn9Xc\">\u201cThe Walker\u201d<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Z4mbxaa3XL8 )\">\u201cOut of My League.\u201d<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Randall Roberts, <a href=\"http:\/\/articles.latimes.com\/2013\/may\/13\/entertainment\/la-et-ms-album-reviews-fitz-and-the-tantrums-more-than-just-a-dream-20130513\">Los Angeles Times<\/a> Pop Music Critic, noted in 2013 that, \u201cAs on its predecessor, band founder and singer Michael &#8220;Fitz&#8221; Fitzpatrick understands what makes a good song, as evidenced by &#8220;Get Away&#8221; and &#8220;The End,&#8221; two gems that suggest evolution. And co-vocalist Noelle Scaggs&#8217; charisma overflows.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The album\u2019s success sent Fitz and the Tantrums on\na two-year touring odyssey, which enabled the Los Angeles-based sextet \u2014 known\nfor its explosive, no-holds barred live shows \u2014 to cement themselves as one of\nthe country\u2019s hottest live acts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Fitz And The Tantrums - MoneyGrabber (Live @ Lollapalooza 2014)\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4lsCXp5g-DY?feature=oembed\"  allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-large is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong>\u201cWe felt incredibly validated by the reception to More Than Just A Dream,\u201d<\/strong> says Fitz. <\/p><p><strong>\u201cWe knew we could pull from many different styles and create a truly hybrid form of music, and do it in a way that felt authentic. At that point, we felt even more empowered to do whatever we wanted creatively.\u201d <\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>According to their band website, when it came\ntime to write the songs for their third album, it became clear to Fitz and his\nco-vocalist Noelle Scaggs that they were suffering from a classic case of\nwriter\u2019s block. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe last album was made super fast and in\nsomething of a bubble,\u201d Fitz says. \u201cThis time\nthere was a lot of massive change happening for all of us personally, so once\nwe put our roots back in the ground at home, I needed someone to hold up a\nmirror and say, \u2018Where are you right now, as a human being? What do you care\nabout? What do you want to say to the world?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To hold up that mirror, the band turned to\noutside collaborators for the first time \u2014 the songwriters and producers Sam\nHollander (Panic! At The Disco), Wallpaper\u2019s Ricky Reed (Twenty-One Pilots),\nJesse Shatkin (Sia, Matt &amp; Kim), and Joel Little (Lorde), which gave the\nband an opportunity to answer some tough questions. \u201cWe relinquished control of ourselves,\u201d Scaggs\nsays, \u201cand that enabled us to tell our story in a\ncompletely truthful manner.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-spotify aligncenter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-embed-aspect-9-16 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Spotify Embed: HandClap\" width=\"100%\" height=\"80\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/track\/7j56HrjR9cGzvekvZY3Faz?utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The result is an emotionally connected record that centers on the theme of desire. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI wanted to explore this idea of desire in all of its forms,\u201d Fitz says, \u201cfrom primal, sexual desire on a song like \u2018HandClap\u2019 to the desire or need to belong on a song like \u2018A Place for Us.\u2019 Desire is one of those emotions that really forces you to turn your brain off and just feel. That&#8217;s just the nature of it. And that lends itself really well to us making a record that provides a soundtrack for people to access that emotion no matter where they are. If you\u2019re getting ready for work in the morning and you\u2019re thinking, \u2018Ugh, I hate my boss,\u2019 you have access to this music anytime that just changes the molecular structure in the room. It changes the energy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That album \u2013 titled&nbsp;Fitz and the Tantrums&nbsp;(Elektra) \u2013 features their biggest hit to date. \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/protect-us.mimecast.com\/s\/TnsLC73DywslVl2yI8ByBk?domain=youtube.com\">HandClap<\/a>\u201d&nbsp;The RIAA-certified Double Platinum single went top 5 on both the <a href=\"https:\/\/headlineplanet.com\/home\/2016\/11\/21\/fitz-tantrums-handclap-enters-top-10-hot-ac-radio-dj-snake-justin-bieber-top-15\/ \">Hot AC<\/a> and Alternative Radio charts.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The band has continued to bring the infectious\nenergy of their live shows to the small screen, with nationally televised\nperformances on ABC\u2019s \u201cDancing With\nThe Stars,\u201d \u201cGood Morning America,\u201d and \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!,\u201d NBC\u2019s \u201cTonight\nShow Starring Jimmy Fallon,\u201d \u201cAmerica\u2019s Got\nTalent,\u201d and Macy\u2019s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and the syndicated \u201cEllen DeGeneres Show\u201d among others.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Fitz and The Tantrums Perform &#039;HandClap&#039;\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fkVVw5eiTrg?feature=oembed\"  allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, \u2018Hand Clap\u2019 may have permanent real estate\nin your cranium (does that song ever leave your head? Asking for a friend\u2026) but\nif <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=GMi3hRWFutQ\">\u2018Fool\u2019<\/a> isn\u2019t on\nevery one of your recent playlists, stop everything you&#8217;re doing and make it\nhappen.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=vExfGEJGckA\">\u2018Let Me Love You\u2019<\/a> is insanely popular but you must check out their\ntoned down version recorded at Spotify Studios NYC.
